Hey all
I was thinking, since there's a person watch for the site, what about a thing that would email you whenever your friends logged into zbp?
What do y'all think?

i like this.

think it's only fair we get such a feature, or at least for the premiums.

shouldn't be too difficult to code, i don't think

Would many use it though? I don't think it would be too difficult to code but the Admins aren't going to consider it unless there are enough people who would make use of it and somehow, I don't think there would be. Feel free to prove me wrong though.

I think it's a good idea too. It can already be shown who's on ZBP on here, so I wouldn't think a Person Watch feature for ZBP would be that hard to do. I think it'd be another good feature for Premiums to have. I personally don't even use the Person Watch for here, but other people would likely use it.

I think person watch in general is a hideous feature

Post 6 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 16-Jul-2010 10:28:23

you do?

well... i guess i can see where you're coming from.

but if you don't like it, then don't use it. plus if someone is watching you, you could ignore it

I'll admit I'm curious as to why the people who are watching me decided to do so, but I don't have anything against the feature itself, and definitely agree it should be extended to ZBP as well, and possibly TeamTalk? Just a thought.

it's creepy when strangers are watching you.

Post 9 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Saturday, 09-Oct-2010 15:42:51

Luckily, I know the people who have watched me at one point or another, but still...it's like, why?

Post 10 by Marissapc2010 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 09-Oct-2010 16:55:46

person watch is extremely stalkerish and totally creepy in my opinion.

Well, sugar baby, why don't you suggest that person watch be taken down?

Post 12 by AgateRain (Believe it or not, everything on me and about me is real!) on Monday, 11-Oct-2010 20:21:00

Uh...I don't like the idea of person watch at all...

Post 13 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 15:03:43

Neither do I, to be honest, but I can't do anything about for now, not being an administrator.

Post 14 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 15:36:50

well, that depends how many people are against it.

Clearly there are people that use the feature or this topic wouldn't exist.

Post 15 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 15:39:18

I still think it should be opt in or opt out. I think it's stockerish as well, but I respect that others may not.

Post 16 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 15:42:25

To those of you who don't like the person watch feature, simply do not use it, and if someone puts you on it, ignore that particular thing. You can ignore someone's person watch of you, so they won't see you, without ignoring them in other aspects if you did not want to.

I thought person watch was cool when it was first instituted, but then when people I don't even talk to started putting me on person watch, I started thinking it was creepy and stopped using it myself.

As for ZBP, you have to be on your computer to get an email letting you know a friend has logged onto ZBP, otherwise, you would get the notice too late. So as long as you're on the computer anyway, why not just alt tab over to the zone and look at the log in list and the list of people on ZBP. You don't even have to log in to see who is there. So why do you need person watch for that?

Post 18 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 15:44:18

that's very true.

Post 19 by Marissapc2010 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 17:14:13

cause you wanna be really really creepy and no when they log in exactly? lol. don't ask me. its all to weird.

Post 20 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Tuesday, 12-Oct-2010 17:28:04

OK here's how out of it I am on some of these social networking things: So how does the Person Watch actually work?
You get an email from the system telling you they logged in? I guess that would work if you use an email address that does push notifications (the instant stuff like for your phone), but ... I fail to see why.

Post 21 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 13-Oct-2010 15:09:56

Exactly. that's what some of us are saying here. If you're checking your Email to see when someone logs in, you're probably either on, or close to the zone anyway. Same with ZBP.

i think it is creppy.too.

Post 23 by rat (star trek rules!) on Thursday, 16-Dec-2010 17:54:40

i've used person watch sometimes to tell if a friend is around, like if i'm mobile i can do a quick check with my mail and if the timing of the message isn't too far in the past i can maybe pop on and say hi to a friend i don't see much. If i miss the person by hours or stuff like that i atleast know they're still around, kind of like a sighted person glancing over to see if someone is still at a certain place or what not.

Person watch is just stockerish...
